Talktool — dial-and-use live phone translation (capability marker, window closing)
Who is in pain, and how much?
An immigrant calling a landlord, a hospital or a government office in a language they do not speak — an old, heavy, verified pain.
What is missing today?
Almost none left. Interpreter lines are expensive and appointment-based, and app-based translation needs both parties to install it — but Apple shipped Live Translation on calls in iOS 26, which is where most of this window went.
What would kill it?
Platform shadow of the heaviest kind: the OS and the carrier both sit above this, and both are shipping it natively. What remains is the residue — non-iPhone users, three-way institutional calls, and language pairs the platforms do not cover well.
What would you do differently?
Nothing to build here. Filed as the date-stamp for when 'call someone with no shared language, no app, no appointment' became ordinary.
How much work is it?
not a build — logged as a capability signal
