What is the idea?

A platform for making, publishing and playing AI-driven interactive stories: you describe a world, it becomes something other people can walk through and change.

Who would use it, and what do they get?

Non-developer user: a parent. Finished thing: a printed, personalised storybook — a deliverable, which is what this board's one exception requires.

Why would anyone bother?

A parent at bedtime who wants one story tonight with their own child in it. What they walk away with is an illustrated, printable book — an object that goes on a shelf, not a subscription to a feed.

What is missing today?

It is aimed at the interactive-fiction hobbyist, which is a small and already-served audience — AI Dungeon and the character-chat apps got there years ago. Nobody has pointed the same machinery at the person who does not want a genre or a community, just one story, tonight, starring someone they love.

What makes this one different?

Drop the platform and the marketplace; ship one artefact. A short, illustrated, branching story with the child's own name and their own drawings in it, finished in ten minutes and exportable as a PDF or a printed book — the thing a parent keeps, not a feed they browse. Cold start (Chinese): 小红书 搜「睡前故事 定制」and 绘本 DIY threads, where parents already pay for name-personalised picture books; Cold start (English): r/Parenting and r/DnD's 'kids campaign' threads.

What is the sharpest thing about it?

The wall was character consistency: the child's face has to be the same face on page eighteen. Reference-image conditioning cleared that this year, which is what moves 'AI story generator' from a novelty demo to something a parent would pay to have printed.

What could kill it?

Interactive fiction has been a passionate, small market for forty years and AI has not enlarged it — it has only made the supply infinite, which is the opposite of what a marketplace needs. Character.ai and its clones already own the audience that would pay, and platform economics need a creator flywheel this will not get.

Who pays, and for what?

A parent, once per birthday, for a physical keepsake — not a subscription to a story feed.

What is the main risk?

Personalised children's books is itself a crowded print-on-demand niche; the AI part has to buy something the incumbents cannot, and 'branching' may not be it.

How much work is it?

about two months of work
