What is the idea?

An AI desktop companion with an emotional layer: privacy-first, wake-word voice, sits alongside your work, extensible over MCP.

Who would use it, and what do they get?

Real but thin as shipped: the wake-word + local-only pitch is consumer, the MCP extensibility is not.

Why would anyone bother?

Choose Yoji for its unparalleled local data privacy and the ability to create custom agents that adapt to your specific needs without relying on cloud services.

What is missing today?

Companion products split cleanly into cloud characters (which see everything you do) and dead local mascots (which see nothing). Nothing yet is both aware of your desk and staying on it.

What makes this one different?

Drop MCP from the pitch. The claim is one sentence: it notices what you are doing on your own machine and nothing leaves it — same local-privacy spine the operator has starred repeatedly (#292 yap, #303 local memory, #553 old-phone node). Cold start CN = 小红书/B站「桌宠」「Live2D 桌面」的评论区; EN = r/Shimeji and r/desktops. Overlaps #569 (drawn desktop pet) — keep as the awareness half, not a second pet.

What is the sharpest thing about it?

Yoji's unique emotional engine simulates real emotions, affecting its responses and behavior, creating a more engaging user experience.

What could kill it?

Emotion in a desktop pet is a two-week novelty unless it is reacting to something real; and 'MCP-extensible' is the part that quietly makes this a developer product again.

Who pays, and for what?

Tech-savvy professionals and privacy-conscious users pay for a customizable AI assistant that enhances productivity and personal interaction without compromising data security.

What is the main risk?

Yoji may struggle against established AI assistants like Siri or Google Assistant, which have extensive ecosystems and user bases.

What did real people actually say?

Verbatim from the public sources linked above, not paraphrased: “…ponse. Is it thinking? Calling a tool? Or is it stuck? 2. **Did the tool calls succeed?** I can't see which tools were invoked, what parameters were passed, or what results came back. 3. **What's the AI's reasoning process?** I…” — github

How much work is it?
