The Order Calls Vaccines Soda and Splits MMR Into More Shots: Every Sentence Is a Lie

Every sentence in the ‘gold standard’ executive order gets called a lie: splitting MMR to add needles, vaccines as bottled soda, Merck refusing outright — and the new CDC director will have to pick a side.

High information density but no major scientific breakthrough; worth it for the policy fight, the outbreak numbers, and two mechanisms that are easy to overlook — mAbs interfering with vaccine response, and the wastewater score having no units.

The order is not a scientific assessment — every sentence in it is a lie

The August 10 executive order asserts that ‘pure nations sustain high vaccination rates through public trust and education, while American states instead use mandatory school-entry requirements’. The conversation immediately dismantles that frame: this is not a scientific assessment, ‘every sentence in it is a lie’, and ‘gold standard’ is nothing more than a label. There is a real counterexample from the COVID period — some countries invested in education and had people scrambling to get vaccinated. But the 50 US states differ enormously, and trust and education alone cannot hold vaccination rates up.

Splitting MMR has no scientific rationale — it just means two more needles

The order ‘acknowledges’ that measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis and polio, among others, should be recommended for all children — and then demands that MMR be broken into three single-disease shots, each given at a separate visit where possible. The key judgment: this adds needles and office visits, with no scientific reason at all, and no manufacturer is willing to make them. The reason Trump gave when signing was that combination vaccines contain a ‘dangerous amount of fluid’, describing a single shot as being like a bottle of soda; in fact most vaccines are only about 0.5 milliliters. Merck's answer was 10 years and hundreds of millions of dollars — and an explicit no.

Vaccination has always been a state power, so the order is an overreach

Vaccination decisions in the US have historically belonged to the individual states; the federal role is to issue ACIP recommendations that the CDC director signs off on, which makes the executive order an overreach. This is the third executive order aimed at vaccines in under a year; the previous one was already blocked by a judge, and this one will most likely go the same way. The new CDC director previously said ‘they would never ask us to put children at risk’; now the order is sitting in front of her, and how she answers becomes the first test. HHS is also soliciting members for the National Vaccine Advisory Committee, and someone joked that being selected would mean the clinical updates have to stop.

The Cyclospora season has not closed out, and the risk sits in one production line

CDC has received 13,895 laboratory-confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis, with at least another 10,455 awaiting further investigation; Michigan alone accounts for 12,485 cases and 279 hospitalizations, and there have already been deaths. Missouri has 1,577 cases, New York City 594. August should be near the tail end of the imported season, some sources have been pinned down and the products pulled from shelves. The remaining risk is that 40% of US lettuce comes from Taylor Farms, and contamination on the Mexican production line is the main worry.

Screwworm kills not through the maggots but through secondary sepsis

The US now has 45 screwworm cases, concentrated in New Mexico and West Texas. Mexico reported 204 cases between April 2022 and March 2026, of which 202 were analyzable: 72% male, mean age 61, 55% on the lower limbs, 77% with at least one comorbidity, six deaths, and only one attributed directly to the myiasis. The larval stage is an obligate parasite: eggs hatch in 12-24 hours, and the larvae feed on living tissue for 5-7 days before dropping to the ground. The mechanism of death is that in people with neuropathy the wound is eaten open, bacteria enter the bloodstream, and sepsis follows.

The county RFK once went to lobby has become the measles epicenter

Measles has already reached 2,484 cases this year, with 10%-20% hospitalized, and there have been deaths. The New York Times dug up RFK telling the Amish community in Lancaster, Pennsylvania five years ago that the CDC and agencies like it ‘cannot stand that you are healthy’, and joking that the treatment for measles is chicken soup plus vitamin A. That same county is now one of the largest outbreak sites in the country, with the state reporting 230+ cases and physicians reckoning it is badly undercounted. The attitude here is unambiguous: hundreds of children hospitalized and unable to catch their breath is not something to discuss lightly.

Get a monoclonal first and the later vaccine's B cell response is suppressed

A study in JID asked whether people who received a COVID monoclonal antibody during acute illness have an altered immune response to a subsequent mRNA vaccine. An analysis of 43 people showed that at day 140 neutralizing antibody titers were lower in the mAb recipients than in the placebo group, and RBD-specific memory B cells were reduced at both day 56 and day 140 — but spike-specific CD4/CD8 T cells were unaffected. The conclusion is that anti-SARS-CoV-2 monoclonals limit the RBD-directed B cell response to a later vaccine while leaving T cells intact. The unanswered question Griffin cares about is whether waiting three months or six months before vaccinating avoids the suppression.

The 2 on the wastewater chart has no units and is not a concentration

A listener asked what the ‘2’ on the CDC wastewater chart actually is. The answer lays out the whole pipeline: sampling → concentration → nucleic acid extraction → qPCR or dPCR to get a concentration such as gene copies per liter → normalization for rainfall and sewage composition → conversion by service population into gene copies per person per day → and finally a 7- or 15-day rolling average with a regression fit. But Vincent stresses that the ‘2’ itself has no units; it is only a categorical score. Read on its own the number will be misinterpreted — it has to be looked at alongside hospitalization and emergency department trends.

In their own words · checked verbatim

I think we have to realize up front before we go any further that everything said in this executive order is a lie. Everything.

To call this gold standard is ridiculous. This is just nonsense because there is no gold standard science here.

A vaccination is the size of a bottle of soda, he said. This is just so irresponsible, Daniel.

Think about the medical freedom, you know, that you're taking away from that little baby who's now in the hospital and the medical freedom impact on the parents who now have a child in the hospital.

The cure for measles is chicken soup and vitamin A, he added.

it does look like prior anti-SARS COVID-2 monoclonal antibody treatment limits the endogenous RBD focused B cell response to later mRNA vaccination, but doesn't really affect T cell immunity.

the two, the units don't mean anything. Okay. They're a categorical score.

Glossary

MMR / measles-mumps-rubella vaccine
The routine three-in-one childhood vaccine; the executive order wants it broken into three separate shots.
ACIP / Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices
A committee under the CDC that sets US vaccine recommendations, which then go to the CDC director for approval.
lyophilized
Drying a vaccine down to a powder, so it needs no cold chain and stays stable at higher temperatures.
PICO / the PICO question framework
The evidence-based medicine structure for a search question: population, intervention, comparison, outcome.
sterile insect technique
Releasing sterile males so that females, which mate only once, produce no offspring, suppressing the target insect population.
RIG / rabies immune globulin
Supplies passive neutralizing antibody for the roughly 7 days before the vaccine takes effect, used in post-exposure prophylaxis.
