Who is in pain, and how much?
Review season arrives and a manager with seven reports can remember the last two weeks and nothing else — so the review gets written from recency and vibes, not from what the person actually did in March.
What is missing today?
The gap it implies did not survive the counter-check. Fellow already ships private manager notes — one manager says plainly he upgraded to the paid tier precisely to get notes his reports could not see — and Ask Fellow drafts the review from real examples pulled out of every 1:1 transcript. Confab is already the indie 'built by a manager, enterprise tools are too rigid' version. What Continuum owns is the axis, not the job: no ratings, no reports, never leaves the Mac.
What would kill it?
Local storage does not make notes safe. Subjective written impressions about named employees are discoverable in employment disputes, and in the EU/UK an employee can subject-access them wherever they sit — a manager's honest 'I think she is bored and will leave' is a liability the moment it is typed. Add the bias mechanism: private impressions accumulate unchallenged and then get spent at promotion time. And by the pain-age test this is an old pain against an old capability — which is why the shelf is already full rather than empty.
What would you do differently?
Nothing to take. The residue — managers whose legal counsel tells them to keep no notes at all — is a reason not to build this, not a wedge.
